Our Story

Every day in Australia, six individuals receive the devastating news of a brain cancer diagnosis. In December 2020, our founders, Peter and Kirsten, experienced this firsthand when Peter's brother, Dean, was diagnosed with brain cancer. Throughout Dean's journey of diagnosis and treatment, Peter and Kirsten became acutely aware of the realities of brain cancer and the associated costs.

The out-of-pocket expenses for treatments and the loss of income due to time away from work can pose significant challenges for individuals battling brain cancer. Without the support of a compassionate workplace, sufficient paid leave, or access to other financial assistance, these burdens become even more overwhelming.

At Superheroes Foundation, we are committed to easing the financial strain faced by individuals living with brain cancer. We understand the urgent need to provide support for out-of-pocket medical costs and address the financial hardships caused by time away from work. Our aim is to ensure that individuals and their families can focus on their well-being and treatment without the added worry of financial stress.

Through our initiatives and programs, we strive to make a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by brain cancer. By rallying support from generous individuals and organisations, we can offer the financial assistance necessary to alleviate these burdens.

The Financial Cost of Cancer

After a brain cancer diagnosis, the journey is filled with numerous treatments, medications, specialist appointments, surgeries, and more.

Unfortunately, these essential treatments often come with a hefty price tag. Even with partial coverage from Medicare and Private Health Cover, families still face significant out-of-pocket expenses. Whether they are public or private patients, these costs can quickly accumulate into thousands of dollars.

On top of medical bills, families also encounter additional financial burdens such as travel expenses, hospital parking fees, side effect medications, child care, and even alternative treatments. The weight of these expenses can be overwhelming, adding further stress during an already challenging time.

Furthermore, the loss of ability to work due to the illness can create financial strain, particularly when the individual affected is the primary earner in the family.

Our Mission

Although superheroes cannot fight brain cancer in the same way they fight crime, Superheroes Foundation aims to be the new addition to any family’s utility belt to help fight this devastating disease.

Superheroes Foundation was established with a mission to provide support to families facing financial hardships due to brain cancer treatments.

Our goal is to alleviate the burden of out-of-pocket costs associated with a brain cancer diagnosis. We believe that families should be able to focus on their loved ones' well-being without the added stress of financial strain.

To achieve our mission, Superheroes Foundation will be organizing fundraising events. Many events are designed to be family-friendly, creating lasting memories for everyone involved. Inspired by our founder, Peter, and his passion for Batman and the uplifting power of superheroes, our events will feature a diverse cast of superheroes, including appearances by the iconic 1966 Batmobile—an unforgettable sight not to be missed.

By attending our events and supporting our foundation, you'll be making a significant impact in the lives of families fighting brain cancer. Together, we can provide the assistance and resources needed to help them through this challenging journey.

Join us in making a difference and spreading the superhero spirit. Together, we can bring hope, joy, and support to those affected by brain cancer and their families.
